Displacement hull SUPs cut through the water by pushing the water around the nose. Displacement hulls accelerate quickly, glide efficiently and hit top end speed in smooth conditions.

Planing hull SUPs are usually wider, larger volume boards and have no limits on where they can go. These boards are most recognizable by their flat planing bottom, pointed nose and pin tail shapes. Planing hulls are good for downwind runs, recreational and open water paddling.
